MIKE GILLIS

DMJPS PARTNER AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Mike Gillis is a DMJPS Partner and Chief Executive Officer and helps privately-held businesses and their owners achieve their long-term financial goals with proactive planning. He is a frequent presenter on tax matters and works extensively in the area of succession and exit planning strategies for businesses.

Mike Gillis is originally from Pennsylvania. He attended Thiel College in Pennsylvania and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and Business Administration, and became a CPA in 1984.  After college, Mike Gillis joined a regional CPA firm in Youngstown, Ohio, before selecting North Carolina as his home. Throughout his career, he has supervised all aspects of taxation, including corporate and individual returns, tax planning and research, employee benefits plans, estate and succession planning, litigation support on tax matters, and international tax.

He has earned the AICPA designation of Personal Financial Specialist which entails his combination of extensive tax expertise and comprehensive knowledge of financial planning. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Tax Division), North Carolina Association of CPAs (NCACPA), and the Greensboro Estate Planning Council. He was also a member of the CPAmerica International Board of Directors from 2005-2009 and in 2008, served as Chairman. In 2017 Mike began a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the NCACPA.

Mike Gillis is active in the community volunteering his time on several board of directors including United Way of Greater Greensboro. He is also a graduate of the Leadership North Carolina program. In his free time, he enjoys grilling at Smith Mountain lake, tailgating, and corn hole. He is a proud father of two successful entrepreneurial kids!
